Not finished, mostly it's the hair that isn't done yet. But these pictures show it at a few different stages.

National Portfolio Day

Eek! National Portfolio Day is on December 7th at MICA. I don't have much time, and I have a lot of pieces I need to do to show range. I need about 15-20 pieces. These are some of my ideas.

• A watercolor self portrait of me. I have the picture that I want to use for it. It is going to be very warm with bright red lips and I want to demonstrate my use of different media. I may add some pen to the image, but I really want the colors to speak for themselves.
• A small acrylic portrait of me wearing glasses. I plan on spending time on this to make it realistic. I want to show my use of more creative use of color, using many yellow tones in the face, peachy lips, and shadows of red and blue.
• A large pencil portrait of my friend kristen.
• To demonstrate my knowledge of basic principles, a piece focusing mostly on perspective. I think this should be many buildings using the most complicated perspective possible, in pen and ink. My dad is an architect and can help me on this.
• I want to do a pencil work of my hand in an unconventional pose. I want to show skill of drawing from real life.
• I have an oddly shaped purple lamp in my room. I want to do this in pencil, with the image focusing mainly on shadows.
• I have an image of my friend that I would like to do in prismacolor. Prismacolor is probably my strongest medium. The picture shows a lot of her shirt, and involves some interesting folds in pillows behind her. The backround is very heavily shaded from yellow to black. The whole portrait should be very color intensive, paying close attention to her red hair.
• A pomegranate still life in prismacolor.
• I want to do either an acrylic work or a prismacolor work of the bottom part of my legs/my feet in black heels that I have.
• I think a pen and ink image of a piece of clothing would look good focusing mainly on the folds of the garment.
• Quick sketches of my face in various positions from the mirror can show both unfinished work and drawing from real life.
• An acrylic of half of my back with some hair involved. This may be hard to take a picture of, and it would be a problem that it is not done from real life. However, this one I want to be very expressive. I want to experiment with brush strokes and colors to acheive still the image.
• I have ornately carved formal dining chairs in my house. I think it would be good to draw one with interesting composition. Perhaps a series of three images all the same size and all of the chair. I think this should be done in pencil, but perhaps in pen and ink.

Those are a few ideas. Uh oh, I have way too much work to do!

First Assignment for Drawing & Painting at School

I really spent a long time on this and was pleased with the outcome. My art teacher was really hapy with it Apparently she showed it to every one of her art classes and like a lot of the teachers at school. Wow! Done with prismacolors.

This next one however, I was not so pleased with. We could draw whatever we wanted in whatever style we wanted. I ended up hurrying on it and did it all in a few hours one night. I was okay with it when i handed it in but now I just know I could have done something soooo much better. I rushed because I had missed two weeks of school because of a hospitalization (so i have several art projects to make up) so the angle of the face and the forehead it totally wrong.

When she's done grading it I want to ask for it back to fix it.
